Knitting close upAfter getting a request if I knew about any “How-To-Knit” books I’m guessing that there are many people out there who have no clue how to knit. I have looked around the net for links on how to get started. They can explain it much better than with my poor pedagogy skills and have some pretty explanatory images.

Of course, nothing beats being taught skills by a real person, but it seems like not many know crafting skills these days.

  • The first thing you want to do is making a slip knot. This should be pretty easy and is explained, with pictures, on this site.
  • When you have made the desired number of stitches you are ready for the knitting itself. As you are a newbie to knitting, all you need to know right now is the “knit stitch” (or garter stitch). I like the explanation on this site.

Hope this post was a bit helpful for all the upcoming knitters. Get ready to get hooked, because knitting can be very addictive :)
What is cooler than creating something yourself!?!

Thanks to my mate Tord for letting me use his photo of my knitting.

Hey can you do a video? On something easy to start. I am the one that his wife does it now but I am in the states right now and she is in Brasil waiting for me to get back.

I once attempted knitting. It was a disaster. My dog wouldn’t even chew on the results. Ah well maybe I’ll give it another try one of these days.

    Hi all,
Thanks Thomas, this will prove very useful for my son who is still lost at the point of two needles and what to do with the wool, I have bookmarked this so he can check out all the links and hopefully you would have solved his miserable problem of not being able to learn how to knit in his so called knitting class, where they only teach cooking and sewing.

Will stumble this one too, great.

    Tony:)

How cool! I’m smiling because I spotted “Women Who Knit Too Much” in a bookstore the other day. Apparently, it can be quite addictive! Alas; I wouldn’t know…

I agree with you – it is really cool to knit something for yourself or friends! I also like it because you can chose the texture and colors of what you want to wear. I like your socks BTW -they look really comfy.

Just a note to tell you I love the title of your blog. My wife knits Dr Who scarves and Harry Potter scarves. There is something zen about the whole knitting thing.

I love to knit! I have two afghans going right now. I am so glad to see that knitting has a bit of popularity again. I don’t know that many people that knit anymore.

I have to check out those links. I actually have knitting needles and wool, but anytime I try to do anything, it comes out…wierd. I am not a neat knitter :/ I have to start over with it because I have to be doing it wrong, I vaguely remember how to knit but I’m thinking I”m missing some big rule.

This is a very nice site. So good to see that knitting is getting kind of popular again.
Did see 2 women the other day in the train knitting. Was cosy to look at.
I am sure a lot of people can get a lot of inspiration reading your blog

You’ve done some cool stuff man. Keep it up. If I had the time I would. But two jobs or work in general tends to prevent me from diving into new hobbies. Bummer.
