Stylish Weblog is a good looking design blog that writes about web design, programming, finance, technology, tools and other issues. It is a 2-column blog with a well arranged layout that makes it easy to browse around on the different parts of the site. I like the upper part of the second column where you can choose between links to random posts, comments, tags or featured posts.
One interesting post from the Stylish Blog is about user accounts in Windows Vista. The post explains what User Account Control is and the different kinds of accounts you can choose in Vista. It also explains how to turn User Account Control off if you would like to not use it.
Another interesting post is about what kind of membership one should choose in the spyware community from Microsoft called SpyNet. SpyNet is a community of users that determine what programs that really are spyware. In the post on the Stylish Blog you get to know about the differences between Basic and Advanced Membership, and if you should join SpyNet at all.
I really love the simple and beautiful design on this blog. I have been thinking about getting a more unique look for my own blog and the design on the Stylish Weblog is a good inspiration.
The weirdness in the “knitting-scene” continue to amaze me. This time I came across a story about a knitting tournament called “Sock Wars“.
It was started by 31 year old woman called Julie Gardner from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She was inspired by a phenomenon called StreetWars where people use mock weapons to fight and assassinate each other.
Sock Wars is a bit different by that the competitors use knitting to assassinate other knitters!?! Each contestant are given an original sock pattern that they must complete as fast as possible and then mail to another contestant. The knitter who completes the pair of socks first wins while the loser lays in a pool of blood and must send the unfinished socks to the knitter who assassinated her/him.
The knitter who last stands is the winner and receive yarn worth $500 and much glory.
This is actually the third tournament of this (crazy) kind. Maybe I should sign up if there is ever a fourth Sock Wars, but I’m not a fast knitter so I would probably die in the first round 😉
The deadline for sending in your application for participating was May 3rd so I’m a bit late with this piece of news from the crazy knitting world. The tournament starts May 9th.

Mother’s Day is coming up very fast and it can be hard to find a suitable gift for the special one.
What about giving her a nice piece of jewelry? I have never heard of a woman who does not like to be gifted a fine piece of jewelry.

Emerald earrings are one possibility of jewelry you can buy for Mother’s Day and My Jewelry Box got several emerald earrings for sale. These green stones are very pretty in my opinion.
Another option for a nice gift could be some jewelry with chocolate diamonds. My Jewelry Box has a section on their site devoted just to chocolate diamonds with a big assortment of jewelry in different price classes. I think these brown diamonds look beautiful.
A third option are emerald rings. Any mother that like the color green would probably love to wear a ring with emeralds.
