Winter is getting closer and the air definitely has an autumn feel to it. It is about high time that I start getting ready for the colder seasons.
Today I started on some warm, black socks, or they are black so far. Who knows what kind of colors I will include later on (I love knitting without a strict pattern).

Here is a picture of how much I have knitted on the socks. The little blue spot on the socks is some leftover yarn I found on the floor. True recycling in practice 🙂

After a long period with no knitting I have moved into a new house with several other knitters. We are trying to make much of the stuff that we need in our household. My latest project is this knitted hand towel, made out of white cotton, that you can see below in the picture. We are gonna use the hand towels in the bathrooms in our house.
It might have been easier to just go to Ikea and buy some cheap towel made in the far east, but it is much satisfying to produce your own stuff. The towel is about half done and I will show you the final product as soon as it is done.

I have tried to make some kind of “pearl” pattern in this towel and I think it looks pretty good. It is fun to experience with new ways of knitting 🙂

Knitting close upAfter getting a request if I knew about any “How-To-Knit” books I’m guessing that there are many people out there who have no clue how to knit. I have looked around the net for links on how to get started. They can explain it much better than with my poor pedagogy skills and have some pretty explanatory images.

Of course, nothing beats being taught skills by a real person, but it seems like not many know crafting skills these days.

  • The first thing you want to do is making a slip knot. This should be pretty easy and is explained, with pictures, on this site.
  • When you have made the desired number of stitches you are ready for the knitting itself. As you are a newbie to knitting, all you need to know right now is the “knit stitch” (or garter stitch). I like the explanation on this site.

Hope this post was a bit helpful for all the upcoming knitters. Get ready to get hooked, because knitting can be very addictive 🙂
What is cooler than creating something yourself!?!

Thanks to my mate Tord for letting me use his photo of my knitting.

Ragg socks for Jone

I finally finished the ragg socks for my friend Jone. I used way too long time on them (blogging taking up too much time), but I’m pretty happy with the result 🙂
In the heel and toe I used an extra blue thread for extra strength/longevity and I think it gave the socks more life.

My next project is some chaotic multi-colored socks so be sure to subscribe to the RSS feed 😉

ragg socksMy latest knitting project is a pair of ragg socks that I’m making for my good friend Jone. He helped me with designing the front page of my photo calender for sale over at Cafepress.

This kind of ragg socks are very typical here in Norway. I guess the reason is that we need something to warm our feet during the cold, long winter.
The socks are very easy to knit once you have remembered the design and it’s good way to use all your left over yarn.

Stay tuned to see the final socks.
